RULE OF LAW ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE
The European Commission reacted to the situation in Poland by launching a formal rule of law assessment procedure under Article 7 of the TEU on 13 January 2016, which regarded the changes in the Constitutional Tribunal and the public media law.
The Commission adopted a critical opinion on the Rule of Law on 1 June 2016 and started a second step in the rule of law assessment, formulating recommendations on 27 July 2016, 22 December 2016 and 26 July 2017.
